Ohana Cafe

I made plans to have lunch with Lucy, the Boyfriend’s Mom, this past weekend. She suggested a restaurant I hadn’t heard of, Ohana Cafe. After taking a quick look at their menu online I quickly responded with an “OMG, YES!”, or something of the sort. I love how well Lucy knows me.

Ohana Cafe is in Ozona, Florida, a little north of Dunedin. They describe themselves as serving “healthy fair with an island flair”. I was intrigued by the large amount of clearly noted vegan options.

I’d never been to Ozona before and wasn’t entirely sure where I was going but it was really easy to find off of Tampa Road.

The restaurant is absolutely adorable and really feels like a little local Hawaain spot. As soon as we walked in the whole staff stopped what they were doing and greeted us with a very warm “Aloha”.

Our server approached the table and gave us each a hug. This was definitely not your typical dining experience. I felt like I’d been going there for years.

We both ordered the blackberry-jasmine green tea and took a while to go through the menu. There were so many different things I wanted to try.

I finally decided on the Ohana Salad with house Ohana dressing. The salad was all chopped up with lettuce, steamed asparagus, almonds, chickpeas, peppers, celery, apple and tomato. It was sort of an “everything but the kitchen sink” kind of salad, and it rocked.

I really really liked this restaurant. I loved the atmosphere and the incredibly friendly staff. There are a ton of gluten-free and vegan options. They also have hula shows and live music on the patio. I can’t wait to go back.

  1. I think I could be Vegan if I could eat at a place like that all the time. The salad looks great, and those menu descriptions look like they would have been good too. I just don’t think I would have handled it well if a server hugged me, though. I’m just not a hugger. Do you think they read you and gauged that you’d be down with a hug?
