Juice-heads

Yeah, that’s right… we’re juicing ;-)

After being inspired by Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Patrick and I decided to jump on the juicing bandwagon. For anyone who hasn’t seen this movie… do it! It’s heartbreaking and inspiring all at once. It’s available on Netflix or you can watch the extended trailer here.

I’m not saying I’m going on a 60-day extreme juice cleanse but the benefits of adding fresh, all-natural just into our diets occasionally are undeniable.

Our produce buying club has an add-on called “Juicers Delight”. For an additional $20 this week’s share included:

  • Romaine Lettuce
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Baby Spinach
  • Local FL Curly Kale
  • Carrots
  • Fuji Apples
  • Red Bartlett Pears
Patrick and I picked up a few extra items we wanted to juice at Publix as well. We made a papaya, grape, spinach, apple, carrot, blueberry juice.

The spinach made it look a little bit like mud but it was incredibly sweet. I am definitely looking forward to making it a regular thing in our home.

Do you make fresh juice at home? Have you ever done a juice fast? How’d it go?

Leafy Greens Cafe

Yesterday after our trail run the Boyfriend and I rode our bikes up to Leafy Greens Cafe on Central Ave in St. Petersburg. Leafy Greens is a completely Raw Vegan restaurant. Nothing is cooked, at all. I’d been there before and really enjoy how fresh everything tastes. For being uncooked they have some of the most flavorful dishes I’ve ever had.

The restaurant is very small. It’s just one room with an open kitchen and the servers are always incredibly nice. I chose to sit outside and people watch. St. Pete is always good for that.

This time I ordered the Real Deal Sandwich and Patrick ordered the Tacos.

They had been busy that day and were out of guacamole so the kitchen made us up a new batch and sent over some chipolte kale chips while we waited.

The sandwich is served with guacamole, lettuce, tomato an cashew hummus on a raw onion bread. The bread is more the consistency of a cracker and has a very powerful onion flavor. I don’t think I’d get it again for that reason but really enjoyed the cashew hummus and quinoa salad.

The Tacos are enormous. They are also made with cashew hummus, guacamole, chipotle sauce, onion, carrots, cabbage and tomato in a lettuce cup with a side of mango salsa.

Leafy Greens is pretty amazing. I love being able to order anything on the menu and not have to worry about ingredients. I can’t wait to try the rest!
