I’m actually pretty surprised that it took us this long to try this restaurant. It’s tucked away on a street I rarely drive and I kept forgetting about it when making dinner plans.
Meze 119 is a vegetarian restaurant in downtown St. Pete. Their menu features all vegetarian and many vegan options with a mostly Mediterranean influence.
Our server was awesome and so knowledgeable about the menu. I always find it helpful to be able to ask questions about the menu without a “let me check with the kitchen” response.
Patrick and I decided to go with the traditional hummus with whole wheat pita for an appetizer. Our server suggested we add some lemon juice to the hummus for extra flavor. I’ve never actually done this but he was 100% right.
For dinner we both had vegan entrees. I went with the Israeli Salad which was shaved cabbage, tomato, cucumber and a light oil dressing. The base of the salad was a small mountain of shaved cabbage and made it really crunchy.
Patrick went with the Meze Original which was a falafel pita with shaved cabbage, cucumber, tomato, tahini and potatoes wedges inside a pita. The falafel looked to be pesto hummus which was an awesome surprise.
This sandwich was super large! Looking at this picture it looks kind of like a hot mess but it was really good.
Another awesome experience at a local vegetarian restaurant. I am so glad to have these type of options just a few blocks from home. I would definitely recommend it to herbivores and carnivores alike
